The 2015 American Film Showcase

American Film Showcase in Mongolia 2015

The U.S Embassy in Ulaanbaatar is partnering with Arts Council of Mongolia to organize the 2015 American Film Showcase (AFS) in Mongolia, to take place in Ulaanbaatar April 22-28. AFS brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries, independent feature films, and film education to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. The Showcase in Mongolia consists of two primary components: educational programming for student, novice, and experienced filmmakers, and an AFS screening series. We hope that you as audience will connect to the different stories that are being told in the films, which are shown free of charge at Tengis Cinema.

The 2015 AFS Mongolia is bringing two filmmaker experts to Ulaanbaatar: Suzan Beraza, director of AFS feature film Uranium Drive-In, and director Tim Skousen. Pairing a film expert and filmmaker allows the activities to go beyond screenings and Q&A sessions, to include workshops and master classes for Mongolian filmmakers. The combined expertise of Beraza and Skousen deepens the impact of the program and their ability show the power of film.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the University Of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, the Showcase highlights the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue, and debate. The 2015 AFS Mongolia films explore diverse topics including freedom of the press, rural poverty, civil rights, social justice, sports, gender equality, environment, and economic development.
