Event: Special departure flights for foreign citizens in Mongolia affected by COVID-19-related travel restrictions

On March 25, 2020, the Mongolian government informed the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar that it intends to offer a limited number of seats on upcoming flights arranged for foreign citizens wishing to depart Mongolia.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines will operate flights to Tokyo, Japan (Narita International Airport) on April 1 and to Seoul, South Korea (Incheon International Airport) on April 2, 3, and 5.

The flight to Tokyo, Japan on April 1 departs Ulaanbaatar at 01:35 am and arrives in Tokyo at 07:30 am.

The flights to Seoul, South Korea on April 2, 3, and 5 depart Ulaanbaatar at 08:40 am and arrive in Seoul at 12:50 pm.

Ticket prices are not currently known.  You should inquire of a MIAT representative when you book your ticket.  You, the traveler, will be responsible for paying for your travel.  You are also responsible for arranging your own onward travel from Japan or South Korea to the United States, as well as any lodging (if necessary).

If you have special circumstances including assistance raising the required funds to pay for your travel  or other urgent needs, please contact the U.S. Embassy at UlaanbaatarACS@state.gov or by replying to this email.

The Embassy is aware of two ticket offices that can take reservations for these flights: the MIAT ticket office in Naran Mall and the Seoul Street/City Plaza AirTrans ticketing office in Ulaanbaatar.  These offices have informed the Embassy that these offices may be able to assist you with onward travel arrangements to the United States.

Maps showing the MIAT ticketing office, Naran Mall location, and the AirTrans Seoul Street office is included below.

You should treat this flight as if it were a commercial flight, i.e. arrive at the airport at least two hours early for check-in.  Baggage restrictions are likely to be limited to one piece per passenger, with additional fees for additional pieces.  Pet policies will be determined by MIAT. MIAT representatives will confirm all ticketing terms and conditions.
