Alert: Anti-COVID-19 Measures – UPDATE as of 2345
Mongolia continues to modify and expand public health measures in an attempt to contain a cluster of COVID-19 outbreaks in Ulaanbaatar and Selenge. As of the publication of this message to American citizens the U.S. Embassy is aware of the following additional measures. All previously announced measures remain in place. Interested citizens may review the Embassy’s past messages to citizens by visiting: https://mn.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/security-and-travel-information/.
EXPANDED OR MODIFIED ANTI-COVID-19 MEASURES AS OF 2345H 14 NOVEMBER 2020
Selenge and Darkhan provinces have been placed on strict lockdown similar to that already in effect in Ulaanbaatar. American citizens in these provinces should review previous messages to citizens for general guidance on this status.
All special charter flights have been suspended until the current clusters of cases have been identified and tested. The Embassy is still determining if this measure means that all outbound charter flights have also been canceled. American citizens with tickets on future outbound charters should contact MIAT Mongolian Airlines about the status of their travel.
The State Emergency Commission (SEC) modified the quarantine regime for inbound travelers re-imposing a previously suspended two-week home isolation period following the current three weeks of institutional quarantine.
Public transportation’s operating hours in Ulaanbaatar remain restricted: 0600 – 1000 and 1700 – 2100.
The border crossings and ports of entry at Altanbulag and Selenge close completely.
GENERAL UPDATE
The Mongolian government reports that food supplies within the country are sufficient. Its contact tracing efforts continue and the number of confirmed cases of community transmission stand at 17 though it reports that this operation may take longer than expected due to contacts not accurately reporting their movements. As previously indicated, American citizens should be prepared to remain isolated for a protracted period of time and maintain sufficient food and other supplies.
UPDATE ON CONSULAR SERVICES
The Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar has temporarily suspended all consular services. Services will resume as soon as they are deemed safe for visa applicants and American citizens. If you are an American citizen in need of emergency assistance please contact +976 7007-6001.
