Remarks by Ambassador Jennifer Zimdahl Galt at the Gobi Wolf 2017 Opening Dinner

Ambassador Galt delivers opening remarks at the Gobi Wolf Opening Dinner

AMBASSADOR GALT: Brigadier General Badral, Governor Naranbaatar, Chairman Sugir, distinguished guests, good evening.

I am delighted to welcome you to tonight’s dinner.

Gobi Wolf 2017 is off to a great start, demonstrating yet again the close partnership between the United States and Mongolia.

We have jointly hosted this exercise for six of the 30 years of our formal diplomatic relationship.

Every year it gets larger, and every year the number of multinational participants grows.

This exercise demonstrates time and time again the importance of civilian and military coordination in disaster preparedness and response.

I fully expect that you will learn much from each other in the days ahead and will conclude this exercise even better equipped to respond to natural disasters.

Brigadier General Badral, Mr. Governor, Mr. Chairman, sincere thanks once more for supporting this annual exercise and for showing such commitment to our joint efforts to prepare for and respond to emergencies.

As I said this morning, I am particularly pleased to be here in a year marking three decades of cooperation between our two countries.

Thank you.
