Students from the American University of Mongolia’s Access Microscholarship program brought holiday cheer to some of the city sanitation employees that work hard each day in the freezing cold to keep the city of Ulaanbaatar clean.
On December 25, students delivered hot food and drink donated by Bangkok Restaurant to the employees in the downtown area of the city. They sang Christmas carols in English and delivered hand-made holiday cards.
The Access Microscholarship is a US State Department funded program that provides an opportunity for underprivileged youth to study English for two years. The American University of Mongolia has been selected to host an Access program for 2014-2016. AUM currently has 15 students from ger districts around UB studying in the Access program. Students have English classes twice a week, as well as field trips, community service opportunities, and guest speakers on a wide variety of topics from culture to leadership skills.
