The U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar invites press to attend a ceremony to celebrate the closing of the project entitled “Cleaning of Fire Damaged Artworks,” which has been funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). The ceremony will begin at 16:00 and conclude at 17:00 on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery on the 2nd floor of B Corps of the Central Cultural Palace.
The ceremony will be opened by Uratugs, the Director of the Cultural Heritage Section within the Department of Cultural Policy and Regulations at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and U.S. Ambassador Galt. The program will include a presentation describing the project and a viewing of the restored works. In total, the project supported the cleaning of 45 paintings by renowned Mongolian artists.
BACKGROUND: The AFCP supports the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and forms of traditional cultural expression. By taking a leading role in efforts to preserve cultural heritage, the U.S. hopes to demonstrate respect for other cultures.
