U.S. Embassy Ulaanbaatar presents “Harmony of Flute and Harp” concert

U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar is proud to present “The Harmony of Flute and Harp Concert”, in cooperation with the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (MSATOB) on March 19, 2015 at 7pm.  Internationally acclaimed American flutist Jeffrey Cohan and harpist from Austria Tina Žerdin will be making their debut concert together collaborating with fellow Mongolian musicians, dancers, and students.  The concert will consist of uniquely distinct solo, duet, and combined performances by the artists.

This event is within the framework and efforts of enhancing and promoting long lasting cultural and educational ties among the two countries.

Jeffrey Cohan, USA, has been awarded the top prizes of international early music Festival of Flanders. He’s been acknowledged as “The Flute Master” by Boston Globe.  He’s performed in 25 countries around the world, celebrating the variety of flute musical instrument. Jeffrey’s the only musician to have been awarded both the highest prize in the Concours Musica Antiqua in Bruges, Belgium and in the Erwin Bodky Competition in Boston, two of the most prestigious prizes for performers of early music on period instruments; he has premiered new music by many American and European composers.  This is his first tour in Mongolia.

Tina Žerdin, Austria, is also and internationally acclaimed harpist, who’ve successfully performed at major symphony orchestras such as Wiener Akademie orchestra, La Scala Theater in Italy.  She first came to Mongolia in June, 2013 during the 50th anniversary year celebration of Mongolia- Austria diplomatic relations.  From that point on, under the cooperation agreement made by the Austrian and Mongolian governments, she has been training harp players in Mongolia. On November 23rd, 2013, she débuted her concert “An Evening of Harp” with her students which was very well received.

During his program in Mongolia from March 17-20, Jeffery Cohan will be teaching master classes to the students, as well as to professionals from the theater orchestras to military band musicians, and Dornod symphony orchestra, etc.  He will be sharing his skill and artistry of playing five different types of flutes.

Artists Jeffery Cohan and Tina Žerdin are arriving March 16, 2015 in Mongolia. On March 17, 2015 at 11AM a press conference will be held at 2nd floor, of MSATOB.
